Pathogen Management

The goal of this program is to strengthen effective pathogen management and source tracking strategies. Research areas include pathogen surveillance, detection, control and mitigation. A variety of emerging pathogen detection methods, including whole genome sequencing and metagenomic tools are being explored to improve the sensitivity and speed of pathogen identification and root cause analysis. Research on microbial characteristics, for example growth conditions and metabolic pathways, are being leveraged to develop novel control solutions. Laboratory and field based trials will be undertaken to evaluate single or multiple step pathogen mitigation strategies; the overall goal being to translate laboratory scale experiments to factory based practical applications.
