Mars Global Food Safety Center Showcased at the China Development Forum 2016 Innovation Expo

The China Development Forum (CDF) was held in Diaoyutai Guesthouse, Beijing, from March 19 to 21, attracting a large number of world leaders, business executives and journalists from Chinese and international media. At the event, Mars showcased its Global Food Safety Center (GFSC) at a bespoke booth at the inaugural CDF 2016 Innovation Expo.

 One of the first of its kind for the region and the industry, the Mars GFSC focuses on conducting pre-competitive food safety research and training. It also serves as a platform and catalyst for building partnerships with government, academic, non-governmental organizations and industry stakeholders, to jointly tackle the challenges of feeding a global population that is expected to grow to nine billion by 2050.

 Mars has over 60 global partnerships and research collaborations with UN agencies, foundations, universities, governments as well as collaborations with organizations such as World Food Programme (WFP), the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA).

 Mars also has a number  of food safety research programs in China and around the world including the IBM-Mars Consortium for Sequencing the Food Supply Chain. These programs not only elevate Mars’ food safety capability, but also deliver benefits to our stakeholders through knowledge sharing.

 The Mars GFSC is also collaborating with China Food and Drug Administration to organize food safety training courses. In a course about the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was delivered….

 At the Innovation Expo, Mars GFSC Director Robert Barker along with Global Head of Microbiological Food Safety Research Ms. Ren Jing gave guests including senior government officials, corporate executives and reporters an introduction to the Mars GFSC and invited them to visit the facility. The booth also featured an advanced mobile robot that can assist in facilitating long distance training.

 Themed around “China in the New Five- Year Plan”, CDF 2016 was organized by the Development Research Center of the State Council. The CDF 2016 Innovation Expo was being held for the first time, featuring exhibitors from 48 domestic and foreign companies, covering high-technology, transportation and other sectors featuring dynamic innovations. It showcased cutting-edge technologies and innovation case studies, helping to promote innovation collaboration between Chinese and foreign enterprises, and serving as a platform for sharing development opportunities.
