Raising Awareness of Food Safety in Partnership with the China National Children’s Food Safety Guard Campaign Painting Competition

In December of last year the award ceremony for the children’s food safety painting competition was held in Beijing, as part of the China National Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign sponsored by the Mars GFSC. The Center Director, Abigail Stevenson gave a welcome speech during the opening of the award ceremony, and Ren Jing, previously Global Head of Microbiology Research, participated in a round table discussion about art and science.

The National Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign is organized by the China Nutrition and Health Food Association (CNHFA) and China Children and Teenagers’ Foundation (CCTF), and endorsed by the Office of China State Council Food Safety Commission and the China Women Federation. This campaign aims to increase food safety awareness among 6 to 12-year-old children, leveraging synergies between government, industry and society.

During the food safety themed painting competition, 70 pieces of work were singled out from 1,600 entries. The competition aims to foster an awareness and understanding of food safety in a light hearted way by using art as a motivation.

The following day the Mars GFSC invited award winners and their parents to visit the center’s facility. Visitors participated in a chocolate making experience while learning about food safety science in action from our scientists. This activity is part of the Mars “Sustainable in a Generation Plan”, nourishing wellbeing by bringing food safety information to our next generation.
